Small block gives a more precise handle with a higher RPM, good for lap racing. Offering a choice to car aficionados, Carroll Shelby built 654 small block Cobras, and 350 big block versions between 1962 and 1968.

Ever since their debut, the AC cobra replicas have gotten bigger and better. Moving to a 287 engine, 538 Mark II models were built in 1964. In the same year an AC Cobra Coupe famously reached 186 miles per hour on a British motorway, impressing car junkies all over the world.

April 1968 brought the Shelby Mustang GT 500 at a horsepower of 335. Estimating low to appease insurance companies, the actual horsepower stood at close to 400 much to the delight of many owners.

The lightweight version of the Cobra debuted at the Geneva Salon in 1990. The weight was down 2,360 pounds compared to the 2,620 weight of the initial model. Power was up to 370 horsepower at 5,750 revolutions per minute.
