There are a few tools to have handy in case of this emergency, and you can get these kits online. You need a reach tool, but this can be improvised with a coat hanger. You also need a wedge tool to create a gap to fit in the hook. The man in this video utilizes an airbag he has.
Make sure the weather stripping is out of the way, and then work the reach tool in between the door and the frame. Try to hit the unlock button on the door, first. This may not work, however, because new anti-theft tools prevent the car from being unlocked with it.
